Eighth season of Glimpses

‘A look at our history through scene and song’

‘What an amazing story’

It’s hard for the cast and crew of the Summer Troupe to imagine that they are about to begin their eighth season of Glimpses. It seems such a short while ago that they were creating the first season of shows in 2008, not knowing if this series of historical based vignettes and music would appeal to visitors from across the globe or to the locals of Lunenburg County.

2008 was a tough start with many shows being performed to just a handful of people. Once during that first month of July they performed the whole show with just two people in the audience. However, things took a major turn toward the end of July as people got to hear of this new and rather unique production.  Now performances in the ‘Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic’, Lunenburg, are regularly played to full houses and over 10,000 people from all over the world have experienced the appeal of Glimpses since its beginning.

Last year ‘Trip Advisor’ rated Glimpses the Number 1 THING TO DO in Lunenburg and the Number 2 THING TO DO in the whole of Nova Scotia, a true reflection of the shows appeal.

If you miss Glimpses of Lunenburg, you obviously took a wrong turn"

Glimpses is without doubt unique. Penned by members of the cast, Glimpses is a series of exciting and entertaining vignettes, suitable for all ages, depicting interesting events in the history of the area. The original, historically based songs gel with the narration and acting to provide many humorous moments and also some times of serious reflection.

This original live theatre presentation has been described as the most entertaining local history lesson you’re ever likely to witness. In all, it is a thought provoking experience with many emotional ups and downs and is complemented by some very relevant slides.

Each year the cast and writers like to bring in some fresh material for their many regular audience members to enjoy. Their biggest dilemma is, which skits have to be replaced to make way for new ones. Glimpses eighth year promises to be another winner with two brand new skits and songs making their debut, plus two past skits and songs being re-introduced after a few years’ rest.

The 100 seat, air-conditioned theatre is extremely comfortable and the wonderful narration, action, music and singing, make it a ‘not to be missed’ entertainment for the whole family.

Glimpses has now become an integral part of visitors experience of Lunenburg County, but has also been enjoyed and supported by many local folk, which in itself is a huge testament to its popularity.

The Summer Troupe are also proud that they have donated thousands of dollars to local charities.

If you have yet to experience Glimpses, try to catch a performance this year and see for yourself what the Summer Troupe has to offer. You won’t be disappointed.

Why not join the Summer Troupe after the show every Tuesday for the jam session at the Icehouse Pub-just below the theatre on the 2nd floor of the museum. You can just listen or come up and sing. It's always a blast!
